For much of the 20th century, ice hockey was a game confined largely to the frozen ponds and rivers of rural Canada and played professionally at the highest level in just six northern cities of the eastern United States and Canada. Today, it is an extremely popular amateur and professional sport throughout all of North America, Scandinavia, and central and eastern Europe, especially in Czechoslovakia and Russia. It is also one of the most fiercely competed and popular Olympic sports. This short but informative history provides the how, where, what, and why of ice hockey's development.

Central Hockey League - The Central Hockey League (CHL) is a professional hockey league. It was created for the 1992-93 season with six inaugural teams in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Wichita, Memphis, Dallas and Fort Worth.

Central Junior A Hockey League - The Central Junior A Hockey League is a Junior A ice hockey league operating in eastern Ontario, Canada. The league started in 1961 and has featured such NHL stars as Steve Yzerman and Larry Robinson of which the two divisions were named for.

Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy - The Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy is awarded each year to the best overage player in the Ontario Hockey League. The Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy was donated by the trainers of the Ontario Hockey League in memory of the late Leo Lalonde, former chief scout of OHL Central Scouting.
