Broadband Powerline Communications: Network Design

Broadband Powerline Communications: Network Design
Power Line Communications (PLC)-using the copper wires that carry our electricity for data and other broadband communications has been under development for a long time. It has the potential to be revolutionary, bringing broadband telecom services to homes without the need for and expense of laying new wires to cover the last-mile. However, technological, institutional, and economic problems have, to date, kept PLC from being a practical, widespread last-mile broadband connection. The main idea of PLC is the usage of the electrical grid also for telecommunications. Powerline communications can also be applied within buildings/houses using the house internal electrical installation. There are currently few books/publications considering powerline communications and existing publications cover mainly narrowband PLC and consider only the physical layer. This book considers both protocols in PLC and network planning. PLC is a topic still in development; there are a number of trial networks and commercial operations just beginning, therefore it is essential that information currently in many diverse resources be brought together in one publication. PLC is an alternative technology for the access networks and is very interesting for new providers trying to realise own access networks after the liberalisation of the telecommunications market. The authors are ideally placed being highly involved in the subject area and being actively involved in producing many articles on the topic. This comprehensive   volume considers broadband PLC networks, their protocols, performance evaluation and approaches for the network planning. The broad coverage of PLC makes this a valuable textfor researchers, development engineers with equipment manufacturers, network engineers, as well as business managers or policy makers needing an overview of the subject and high-level students (postgraduate, masters) with specific technological interests.

Convergence Technologies for 3g Networks: IP, Umts, Egprs and ATM by Jeffrey Bannister, X
Convergence Technologies for 3g Networks: IP, Umts, Egprs and ATM by Jeffrey Bannister, X
The merging of voice and data on a single network opens powerful new possibilities in communications. Only a fundamental understanding of both technologies will ensure you are equipped to maximise their full potential. "Convergence Technologies for 3G Networks describes the evolution from cellular to a converged network that integrates traditional telecommunications and the technology of the Internet. In particular, the authors address the application of both IP and ATM technologies to a cellular environment, including IP telephony protocols, the use of ATM/AAL2 and the new AAL2 signalling protocol for voice/multimedia and data transport as well as the future of the UMTS network in UMTS Release 5/6 All-IP architecture. "Convergence Technologies for 3G Networks: Explains the operation and integration of GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, CDMA2000, IP, and ATM.Provides practical examples of 3G connection scenarios.Uses live captures from 3G networks.Describes signalling flows and protocol stacks.Covers IP and ATM as used in a 3G context.Addresses issues of QoS and real-time application support.Includes IP/SS7 internetworking and IP softswitching.Discusses the use of Voice over IP and SIP in UMTS.Outlines the architecture of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for UMTS. This highly accessible reference is suited for professionals from the telecommunications, data communications and computer networking industries.

Surf Communication Solutions - Surf Communication Solutions provides MoP (Media over Packet)-enabling technologies and solutions for telecommunication infrastructure equipment providers. Surf’s products enable convergence of all major media types -- Voice, Video, and Modem/Fax/Data (triple play) over IP, Wireline and Wireless networks.

Advanced Data Communication Control Procedures - In telecommunication, Advanced Data Communication Control Procedures (or Protocol) (ADCCP) is a bit-oriented data link layer protocol used to provide point-to-point and point-to-multipoint transmission of data frames that contain error control information.

Data transmission circuit - In telecommunication, data transmission circuit is the transmission media and the intervening equipment used for the transfer of data between data terminal equipments (DTEs).

Digital Data Communications Message Protocol - Digital Data Communications Message Protocol (DDCMP) was devised by Digital Equipment Corporation in 1974 to allow communication over point-to-point network links for its DECnet Phase I network protocol. It could use full or half duplex synchronous and asynchronous links and allowed errors introduced in transmission to be detected and corrected.
