Using Psychology in Management Training: The Psychological Foundations of Management Skills by David A. Statt,

Using Psychology in Management Training: The Psychological Foundations of Management Skills by David A. Statt,
Many of the fundamental principles of psychology form the basis for management training. Using Psychology in Management Training aims to give trainers and student trainers a grounding in the ideas and research findings which are most relevant to their work. Three major areas are explored from a management training perspective and illustrated with case studies: -- The individual psychological processes of learning, personality and motivation which are at the heart of most management training courses -- The social psychological processes of group dynamics, leadership and stress which all arise from the interaction of people at work -- The psychology of the actual training experience including the crucial training skill of communication and what is needed to meet organisational training needs. Using Psychology in Management Training has a clear and accessible format with a comprehensive glossary of unfamiliar terms and suggestions for further reading at the end of each chapter.

"Psychology" allows readers to discover the important findings of this field first-hand! Readers put themselves in the role of researcher, allowing them to take an active interest in understanding psychology as a psychologist would. Dozens of pioneering researchers have been interviewed, enabling readers to find out how they became interested in psychology, how they came up with their important discoveries, how their discoveries influence the field today, and where they believe psychology is headed in the future. Topics include behavioral neuroscience, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning, memory, thought and language, nature and nurture, human development, intelligence, motivation, emotion, social influences, social and cultural groups, personality, psychological disorders, treatment, health and well-being. An exciting read for anyone interested in psychology and research; because of its comprehensive appendix, glossary, and reference section, this book is a must-have desk reference for psychologists and others in the field.

Educational psychology - Educational psychology is the study of how humans learn in educational settings, the effectiveness of educational treatments, the psychology of teaching, and the social psychology of schools as organizations. Although the terms "educational psychology" and "school psychology" are often used interchangeably, researchers and theorists are likely to be identified as educational psychologists, whereas practitioners in schools or school-related settings are identified as school psychologists.

Critical psychology - Critical psychology is both a critique of "mainstream" psychology and an attempt to apply psychology in more progressive ways (based, for example, on Marxist or feminist analyses) and contexts than have thus far been the case. There are a number of textbooks of critical psychology and at least two critical psychology institutes, in Manchester and Sydney.

Traffic psychology - [psychology is a young expanding field in psychology]. Whereas [[traffic psychology is primarily related to "the study of the behaviour of road users and the psychological processes underlying that behaviour" (Rothengatter, 1997, 223) as well as to the relation between behaviour and accidents, transportation psychology, sometimes referred to as mobility psychology, has its focus on mobility issues, individual and social factors in the movement of people and goods, and travel demand management (TDM).

Industrial and organizational psychology - Industrial and organizational psychology (or I/O psychology) is also known as occupational psychology (in the United Kingdom) and work psychology (from the German, Arbeitpsychologie).
